Paramedics

All of our paramedics are Nationally Registered and dually certified in the State of Washington. In addition, they are providers in BLS, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Marine Rescue, Emergency Vehicle Operations, and Wilderness Medicine.  Our paramedics are additionally certified as either Critical Care EMT-Paramedics (CCEMT-P), Certified Flight Paramedics (FP-C) or are actively pursuing this special accreditation.

    Travis Potter

    Travis Potter is our newest full-time paramedic.  Travis earned an Associates in Applied Sciences in Paramedicine from Lane Community College with additional undergraduate work from the University of Idaho in business.     Weyshawn Koons

    Weyshawn Douglas Koons is the Lead Paramedic for San Juan Island EMS. She has lived on San Juan since the Thanksgiving of 1981. Ten years after moving here, Weyshawn took the EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) class and fell in love with emergency pre-hospital care. Weyshawn serves as our Senior EMS Instructor (SEI).     Chief Jim Cole

    Chief Jim Cole

    Chief Jim Cole began his EMS career while attending Kent State University in 1984, completing his BS in Community Health Education, while simultaneously attended paramedic school in Akron, OH.  He earned top honors and became one of the youngest paramedics in the State of Ohio. Jim served as a 911 paramedic and EMS supervisor in the Cleveland area while developing a fixed wing air medical service. He attained the level of Chief Paramedic. Full bio…

    James Kellogg

    James is a long time islander, starting with San Juan Island EMS in 2003.  A graduate of Spring Street International School, he then completed a BS degree from Brown University in Community Health Education and then completed the Harborview Paramedic Program in Seattle.     Ryan Nelson

    Ryan Nelson started in EMS 1997 after a visit to the island turned into permanent residence here.Ryan began working full-time with us in January 2008.  He has been working with Skagit Medic One for over 7 years.  In his free time, he is an avid skier and sea, surf and whitewater paddler.
