Ron Krebs, NREMT has been an EMT with us since 2012. He works full-time as a deputy with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office and is raising his family here on the island.
Linda Dunaway, NREMT is a multi talented person with experience in administration and now patient care. She works as an Administrative Assistant for our air partner Island Air, Inc. and works with us as an EMT as well. She and her husband Dave moved to the island in 2010 and are raising their family here.
Deven Foss, EMT comes to us with a background in firefighting and law enforcement. She joined San Juan Island EMS in 2012 and is an active member of the community.
John Calogero, MS, NREMT is an experienced EMT and Wilderness EMT and remote trek guide. John travels the world as a guide into remote villages. He is our lead SOLO Wilderness Medicine Instructor and responds regularly to ground 9-1-1 calls as well.
Steve Brumsickle, MS, NREMT, CNA is one of our newest EMTs and a longstanding science educator here on island.
Larry Wall, RN, BSN, CEN, CFRN, CMTE serves as Director of Critical Care Transport for San Juan Island EMS / Island Air Ambulance. Before coming to San Juan, he worked in the Chicago, IL area as the Chief Flight Nurse and Base Manager for a regional air medical service.

Weyshawn Douglas Koons, CC/NREMT-P, SEI serves as Director of Emergency Response Services for San Juan Island EMS. She has lived on San Juan since the Thanksgiving of 1981. Ten years after moving here, Weyshawn took the EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) class and fell in love with emergency pre-hospital care. Weyshawn serves as our Senior EMS Instructor (SEI).
Steve was selected as EMT of the Year in 2004 and 2006. For the past 2 years Steve has been the only EMT to be the recipient of The Fank Wilson Award (responding to over 500 calls in a year). Steve built his home where he and Ann Marie live with their Australian Shepard Brewster.
Dan has been a volunteer EMT with the San Juan Island EMS since completing his training in 1992. He was named EMT of the year in 1998. Dan provides excellent patient care and responds at all hours of the day and night to emergency requests.
Deanna has lived in Friday Harbor for 23 years. She joined San Juan Island EMS in 2005, and is passionate about being a EMT and serving her community. Since becoming an EMT, Deanna has responded to over 300 calls yearly. She was Rookie of the year in 2006 and EMT of the Year in 2007. [...]
With my keen interest in health and medical issues and a desire to help others in a more meaningful way, Weyshawn suggested I consider the island’s volunteer EMT program. I have since come to appreciate that it is a privilege and an honor to serve people in this manner and I have been deeply moved by my interactions with them.

Cady Davies, EMT serves as our Executive Assistant. Prior to joining EMS, she worked at the Spring Street International School where her two daughters were attending. She did a wide variety of jobs for the school, but her favorite was to travel internationally with groups of teenagers: India, Thailand, Nepal, Central America and the Maldives.

Debbie Grimes is a long standing EMT of over 15 years. She is one of our CPR evaluator/educators and helps us all keep current in this area. Debbie’s main life focus is her son, Austin, and helping her island community. She does both with a patient, even keeled passion. She works for Island Convalescent Center in the area of Central Supplies and Medical Records. She is always ready to give a smile and a helping hand. We are more than lucky that she has chosen EMS to be the recipient of her extra time.

After finishing college on the east coast, Kaitlyn moved out to San Juan Island to enjoy a summer with a childhood friend. About three years later she decided to join a fall EMT class in Friday Harbor. Not knowing that she would enjoy it so much, her life has spun in a new direction from a BA in photography to hopes of becoming a more integrated part of the San Juan Island Aid Unit. Kaitlyn is always eager to continue her education at seminars, take classes and respond to calls.
Tad has been with the department since early 2006. (He was in our last class!) He says he joined because he wanted to gain more skills to better serve his community. Margaret Longley was born on San Juan Island in 1981. She has traveled and lived in Russia, Mexico, and Iraq. She is currently studying human ecology at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine. Brien joined San Juan Island EMS in the fall of 2005. He is an accomplished construction professional and also volunteers for the island fire department. He has been a long-time island resident.

Lainey leads our efforts in injury and accident education and prevention here at EMS. She has received numerous awards for her efforts in heading up our public education campaign, teaching thousands in CPR and first aid, and coordinating our car seat and helmet program. In her spare time, she enjoys sailing, flying and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Noah joined San Juan Island EMS, in the winter of 2008, he joins his Brother Ben who is also an EMT. Noah was born and raised on San Juan Island and is a second generation EMT. Noah currently works as a Carpenter and is an outdoor enthusiast.
Ryan Nelson started in EMS 1997 after a visit to the island turned into permanent residence here.Ryan began working full-time with us in January 2008. He has been working with Skagit Medic One for over 7 years. In his free time, he is an avid skier and sea, surf and whitewater paddler.
Chief Jim Cole, MA, FP-C, NREMT-P, CEMSO, CMTE began his EMS at Kent State University in 1984, completing a BS in Community Health Education, while simultaneously attended paramedic school. He earned top honors and became one of the youngest paramedics in the State of Ohio. Jim served as a 911 paramedic and EMS supervisor in the Cleveland area while developing a fixed wing air medical service. He attained the level of Chief Paramedic.
