Robert Benton  -   EMT

EMT

I was born and raised in Seattle, have early 1900’s family ties to San Juan Island and enjoyed time as an “FI” (Friendly Indian) at Camp Orkila in the 40’s. Patricia and I moved to the islands in 1995 from Southern California and we are continuing a 40+ year business in aviation/aerospace. Many of us do not fully understand the significance of our Emergency Medical System. I was such a person. Thanks to Patricia’s interest in becoming involved with EMT, Weyshawn, Jim and the EMT’s ongoing patience, I’ve come to realize just how important the EMS contribution is. We often speak of the “golden hour” when referring to critically ill folks and the importance of their reaching the best possible hospital care within 60 minutes. On San Juan Island it is the EMS team which makes this possible. For both of us it is this team aspect of EMS which we support. Our EMS tam needs capable people and equipment rapidly delivered to the patient. Our contribution to date has been to endeavor to provide the quickest possible response to aid calls with our ALS equipped ambulances.
