Island Air Ambulance
Island Air Ambulance is a service of San Juan Island EMS in Friday Harbor, Washington with flight operations (pilots and planes) leased from Island Air, Inc. Island Air is FAA and State of Washington ALS licensed. We are currently pursuing CAMTS accreditation and are active members in most of the national and regional air medical professional associations.
The medically configured Cessna 207 transports patients requiring rapid evacuation to the mainland. The aircraft is equipped to accommodate stretcher-bound patients and the medical personnel who accompany them. Patients will generally be flown to the airport nearest the hospital or medical facility at which they are to receive care, and will then be met by an ambulance to complete the transport with our medical crews continuing aboard.
The aircraft is IFR (instrument flight rules) certified and Part 135 FAA licensed for ALS transport, as well as hazardous materials rated.
The aircraft is also expertly tracked in real time by cutting edge OuterLink technology and professionally dispatched provided by Northwest MedStar.
Island Air is additionally, the first air medical operation in the USA to deploy the electronic flight bag allowing for use of the iPad as an aid to the pilot in the cockpit. Medical crews have cutting edge technology allowing direct air to ground communications through a ROIP system between the aircraft and air command dispatch.
The plane is capable of landing at all major airports and more than 14 island airfields serving San Juan County. The plane is outfitted with all of the necessary equipment and patient carrying devices needed to provide the highest quality care in the air.
