Island Air Ambulance
Island Air Ambulance is a service of San Juan Island EMS and MedEvac (operations, medical personnel) in partnership with Island Air, Inc (planes and pilots).
Island Air is FAA and State of Washington licensed and CAMTS accredited with active participation in many national and regional professional associations.
The medically configured aircraft transport patients requiring rapid evacuation to the mainland, and are equipped to accommodate stretcher-bound patients and the medical personnel who accompany them. Patients are generally flown to the airport nearest the hospital or medical facility at which they are to receive care, and then be met by an ambulance to complete the transport with our medical crews continuing aboard.
Our medical crews have certifications in advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support, neonatal resuscitation, and advanced trauma life support. All of our Flight Nurses are Certified as Emergency Nurses (CEN) and/or Certified Flight Registered Nurses (CFRN) and our Flight Paramedics are all Nationally Registered and are additionally certified as Certified Flight Paramedics (FP-C).
The aircraft are IFR (instrument flight rules) certified and Part 135 FAA licensed for ALS transport, as well as hazardous materials rated. Cutting edge OuterLink technology is deployed and operations are professionally dispatched by Northwest MedStar, the 2012 recipient of the AAMS Program of the Year Award.
Island Air Ambulance is additionally, the first air medical operation in the USA to deploy the electronic flight bag allowing for use of the iPad as an aid to the pilot in the cockpit. Medical crews have cutting edge technology allowing direct air to ground communications through a ROIP system between the aircraft and air command dispatch.
The plane is capable of landing at all major airports and more than 14 island airfields serving San Juan County. The plane is outfitted with all of the necessary equipment and patient carrying devices needed to provide the highest quality care in the air including Revel ventilators and Baxter Spectrum IV pumps.
