The new Revel Ventilator was recently used on a critical patient that was flown via Island Air Ambulance when other mainland based air resources were unable to come to the island because of foggy weather.

“The state-of-the-art ventilator performed flawlessly,” stated Critical Care Transport Director Larry Wall, RN, BNS, CEN, CFRN, CMTE.  “This and other critical care equipment like the LifePak 12 and the Baxter Spectrum IV pumps were used by our critical care flight crew to safely and effectively transport a patient in Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) weather safely to a mainland hospital where the patient was admitted to the ICU and is now recovering.”

Along with two Medevac IFR rated pilots, the medical crew consisted of a critical care flight nurse and critical care flight paramedic. “The CAMTS Accreditation process has allowed us to vastly improve our service to the San Juan Islands Community,” stated Chief Jim Cole, MA, FP-C, NREMT-P, CEMSO, CMTE.  “The advancements in certifications, equipment, and training will allow us to provide cutting edge aeromedical services to our county in new and exciting ways.”
